Welcome to the place
that ideas come to grow.

The Studio NK is a design collaborative headed by Noa Alxndr.
This is a studio that navigates creative and logistical needs,
giving you the ability to turn ideas into reality.

Rooted in industrial design,
we bridge the gaps between art, design and engineering.
Together we can incrementally improve our world.

We design through
the lens of relationships.
Designs interact with a multifaceted world.
They go through communities of people,
are shared over thousands of miles, and
have to go somewhere when no longer used.

Our Symbiotic Methodology explores all the the possibilities, going beyond expectations to
create modern, refreshing designs.

There are four types of relationships
we pay attention to:

Parasitic
Relationships
Parasitic products are a series of selfish decisions. This can be placing too much responsibility on the consumer, or being overly harmful to produce.

We've normalized plastics that will oulast seven of our lifetimes. We must take responsibility for the things we create.

Commensalism is our minimum expectation for design decisions. This is where a user's experience feels natural, it's carbon neutral to produce, and will eventually degrade or be reused.

Good design goes unnoticed, whether it be the consumer or the Earth.
Commensalistic
Relationships

Mutualism goes beyond a product fulfilling its intended function. A good brand instills trust and pride into the things they create.
This take a deep understanding of how the product is made and the role it plays in people's lives.
Mutualistic
Relationships

Patronistic
Relationships
Today's world really needs some heroes. This relationship is identified through an active pursuit of benefit and growth for others. Sometimes a small detail makes the greatest difference for people. That's what we're here for.
When creating a design, it's imperative to be aware of the systems it will interact with. The Cycle begins and ends with the dirt foundation, representing the available resources and systems. Together we can grow designs from their SEED, and plan for all other parts of The Cycle.
The Conscious
Creation Cycle

Our creative process has four phases:

Every project requires clear parameters to guide decisions throughout the design process. We start with the SEED: The Systems that the design interacts with; The Expectations of this product, service or experience; The Essence and style our unique design will have; and the elements to instill Desire into the design.

In this phase, we are developing a complete understanding of our final direction. Sketch ideation, research and rough mockups are commonly used to create different perspectives, creating a solid foundation to assemble the many details of the design later on.

The Production Phase is where we manufacture, celebrate and share the design. All our hard work will begin to pay off here as we get the design out into the world and into the hands of our people.

Designs grow by working through
these Symbiotic Tools:

Design For Manufacturing
Also known as DFM, this technique allows the manufacturing process guide the design. This streamlines the creation process by avoiding potential hiccups and dead-ends throughout the project.

Generative & Organic Design
Technological advancements are creating a new era of design. Additive manufacturing techniques make it easier than ever to produce complex patterns, surfaces or forms.

Biomimicry
This method uses naturally-occuring phenoma to inspire solutions in our human-created world. Using nature as guide, we can develop the most sustainable solutions for generations to come.

Intentional End of Life
As creators, we have to accept our designs will eventually be thrown away. It's our responsibility to make items safely cease to exist, whether they somehow degrade or become a new material.

Noa, the Principal Designer of The Studio, experiences a cross-modal form of Synesthesia that allows them to create unique patterns and textures. They also have the technical ability to translate that onto physical forms; whether it's a single masterpiece or a million of them.

The Studio is a collective thanks to
our Virtual Vertical Network.
What's a Virtual Vertical Network?
n. A series of relationships between businesses and freelancers that exchange, share and complete work together. This allows a singular entity to manage projects from start to finish without bringing every step in-house.
If The Studio cannot do something your project requires, we'll gather the people that can.
